Inside the boat at Pier 2
Detail of an unknown work
A detail of the Temple of Juno
The Temple of Juno. A very intricate work of art for the Roman goddess of marriage, queen of the gods.
Testosterone Powered is by Jay Losofsky. A cross between a rifle and a scrotum. Do men need guns to prove something?
The sky over the Star Seed.
Star Seed on the playa.
Star See with some people for scale.
Another view of the Star Seed. Is it a seed pod waiting to launch? Or one that has landed?
Star Seed at night.
The Star Seed is by Kate Raudenbush. It's forty feet tall. Where else can a work of art forty feet tall be dwarfed by its empty space?
Starlight at dusk with the moon in the background.
Starlight again, and the moon.
The Man base pistil again.
The Reno Star Cosmic Thistle under the full moon. The piece is by Mark Szulgit who, I believe, is not from Reno, but that's another story. It's made from scavenged steel which is from the city of Reno.
Other people have other views of the mantis.
Preying Man-tis by Heather Dessel. The theme this year was Fertility 2.0, and of course the female mantis bites the head off the male during intercourse and devours her lover.
Louise onboard Pier 2.
Burn Wall Street detail.
The Man Base Pistil is by by Gregg Fleishman. It's a 35-foot double helix.
By Jay and Chromatest, with weaving help by Mattison Pearlman. One of our favorite pieces.
The Hug Deli.
Ego again during a dust storm.
The Char wash by Christopher Schardt. A group of people is surrounded by the flaming arms and the group is reborn as was the phoenix.
I've got to figure out how to get one of those scissor lifts for us so we can see the Burn from close and high. A spectacular view of the Man before he collapsed, lots of fire tornadoes.
From The Man -- 2012
The Man has collapse, and the pyre is hotter, spinning of lots of fire tornadoes.
Nice shot of the man and the interior of the pedestal.
Sparks spewed from his arms and legs at the start.
The omega man.
The omega and a bit of the pedestal.
Closer shot showing the omega.
The pedestal was well-lighted inside and out, and the Man was white. This is the omega side.
The two of us in front of the Man.
More fire tornadoes as the pedestal is fully engulfed.
Flame tornadoes spin off from the pyre. Note that his arms have fallen.
The fire started on his leg, and the lights were still on here, with fireworks shooting off.
Lights are out, fireworks going, and the flames are spreading.
There is still some neon lit, with the fire just starting on his leg.
